We have recently been adopted by 2(just gone 5 months old) deaf dal puppies - from Death Row at the local RSPCA. Do you have any trainers/contacts available in Australia? we are in Bendigo Victoria (central victoria). Would appreciate any suggestions we also have a very anti-pet neighbour who is having issues with our new family members and the fact that we don’t YELL at them. We don’t see the point… it’s not like uni-laterally deaf dals will ‘hear’ us.
Would appreciate any suggestions on communicating so we can understand each other

Hi Jane,

I was in Australia in 2003, but there are no certified trainers in Australia yet. I hope to return in the near future and leave behind some SATS Certified Trainers. I will announce it on this list when I do, and it might be that you will either be there or even help bring it about.

Consider joining our discussion group for people new to SATS, Trainest, http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/trainest. There you can ask questions and get help and guidance to communicate effectively with your dogs and empower them to cope and cooperate in daily life. Thanks for writing and best wishes!

I am looking for a career working with dogs and am exploring dog behaviour training in the UK. I found your site more than inspiring. It answers my dearest wish for better animal/human communication, having previously worked in one of the largest re-homing centres in the UK and have been so often unable to bridge the gap especially with sick and panicking animals. To be able to say “It’s ok just let the vet take a look.” Wow. Is any training available by yourself in the UK. I’ve just emailed you to order a manual, but I’d want some seminar, practical study as well. Forgive long message. Best wishes and thanks!

Hi Jane

You are so lucky to be in the UK. Contact our liaison, Sue Ketland, Wood Green Animal Shelters , Cambridgeshire(sue.ketland@woodgreen.org.uk and she can get you started. I will be in the UK in March for Crufts, and we are planning a public event and some seminars then. We want you to come, see this in person, for yourself, get involved and help us continue the effort! Please keep me posted on your progress.

Best wishes,
Kayce

I would like to become a sats certified trainer also and i have looked at other forms of training and thought that they where pretty barbaric, I used to talk to my dogs and explain everything to them when I was a little girl and I stopped so I would not be chastized for trying to communicate with a dog, the fact that I was correct is nice to know. I live in the K.C. MO area

Just returned from training with my fifth guide dog, and had the pleasure of sharing a room with another trainee, who is also a SATS certified trainer. I am particularly attracted to the fact that you name objects, and unlike the clicker training I’d practiced with my previous guide, giving dogs an expanded vocabulary would have so much use for me. I’m hoping to locate a SATS trainer in the San Francisco bay area, or Silicon Valley where I live.

Time permitting, could you please change the two email addresses for me on this site to kgfht5120@kingofgamesfarm.com, instead of dsimardus@yahoo.com - I’m trying to decommission that one. Thanks!
